In the recent years especially, many of us have been thoroughly shattered and schooled by grief, love and a liberation that is older than we’ve ever known.

In our ancient memories of when we lived and died in thriving villages, the people always rallied around their artists and held them with great reverence.

WE KNEW THE ARTIST AS ORACLE. THE STORYTELLER AS PROPHET.

We were protected and cherished as caregivers, gift givers, celestial energy healers, planetary guides & directors of communal & ancestral movements.

Communities have been robbed of so much because we’ve been denied the joy, right and responsibility to care for our artists.

If you’ve been following along, last month I ran a 2-week spin-off series called “The Truth About What Art Can Do (in times of genocide).”

There’s a question embedded in the title…what CAN art do in times of genocide, escalating climate crisis, fascism, and great world reversal?

This speaks to a question that so many artists and writers have been grappling with in the last few years:

Does my art matter at a time like this?
How to contribute my art in a way that actually helps the world heal?
How to create in a way that aligns with my values?
Am I just part of the problem because I still want to find success as an artist?

Or maybe the problem is…

That we do know our art matters right now, but we’re scared to act like we know.

…because there is so little collective support or public advocacy for what we do and how we do it.

I think that a lot of people who struggle with the question, “does my art matter?”

…actually don’t care if their art and stories will matter, they just know they have to do it.

And more importantly – we WANT to do it, regardless of the outcome. Regardless of whether or not it “does” anything.

There is actually a very deep principle of ancestral artistry embedded in this commitment.

We come to this Earth knowing that we WANT to give something of ourselves, regardless of how it will land or what it will change.

We WANT to share something genuine and heartfelt to our beloved.

In other words, we don’t give ourselves to a relationship that we love, because we feel entitled to your response – whether that’s the response of an individual, or the response of the world. And there’s your principle of ancestral artistry.

Give something sincere of yourself to the world, and know that in and of itself is enough.

So why the existential crisis?

Because, if we’re trying to create our art in a society that doesn’t fully support the process, it hits those deep questions on whether or not you should be alive.

Did I make a mistake being born in this particular body, with this particular name?

Was I born during the wrong time? Nobody wants me? Then why I am here? Maybe my life doesn’t matter?

The truth is – of course your life matters.

Of course you are supposed to be here, and of course you are supposed to find love, joy and fulfillment doing exactly what you came here to do.

The truth is, many artists are deeply devoted to the planet, and are activists at heart. But while activism has always needed and used art, it hasn’t always treated its artists well – and we know that.

But we are still here grappling with the question, trying to find the right answers.

What is the role of the storyteller during times like these?

Usually we find a way out of this conversation by reassuring each other and ourselves: Just keep going. It’s true. Your art does matter. Keep going.

Throughout this 2-week series, we explored the “truth” of what art can do in these times in many ways and found several answers.

After taking a little rest (not really haha) or at least a pause from the series and allowing it to integrate, I’ll say these couple pieces of reflection:

The truth is: “does my art matter?” is not really the question we are most concerned with.

The question we’re really asking is: can I get the support for what I already know I need to do with my time?

But…here it is, even deeper:

The truth is…we truly do not know the truth about what art can do in times of genocide or times of anything.

In other words…we haven’t yet shown each other what the truth could be.

We haven’t yet explored its depth. We haven’t yet mastered it as a collective.

We have been so displaced from the ancestral roots of our practices, and disconnected from the most powerful nature of our ancestral technologies.

We have been so funnelled and chained to artistic industries built on a foundation of genocide.

Think about how powerful and life changing art has been while channelled through these industries AND ways of working AND ideas, practices and technologies of engaging artistic craft that is completely displaced from its earth-honouring cosmic traditions.

Think about how much art has changed the world. Influenced activism. Kept people alive. Kept people happy.

…WHILE being completely locked up by genocide and genocidal industries.

What if we freed our practices, ideas, and technologies from all of that.

What if we PRIORITIZED supporting and championing Ancestor-guided, divinatory, Spirit-Led, revolutionary art-making on all levels and dimensions.

What if we put MONEY behind the PLANETARY ARTIST IN RESIDENCE?

The truth is, WE HAVE NO FUCKING IDEA HOW POWERFUL THAT SHIT WOULD BE.

Like…that’s so powerful…it’s frightening.

Maybe that’s why we’re still stuck, or sticking ourselves, in the same old tired thing: please reassure me that I matter.

What’s the alternative? That we become the most mighty force of revolution in modern AND ancient day multiverse history?

Do we have collective support in place to usher through that kind of change? Are we prepared?

BEHIND THE SCENES

What I love to do is take you behind the scenes of my creative/spiritual/business development, and my thought process behind why I do things the way that I do.

Here I want to share some thoughts on money and pricing. If you’ve been following my work, you know I’ve been sharing a lot about this topic. I am focused and committed to developing truly sustainable and holistic ways to fund the life path of the PLANETARY ARTIST IN RESIDENCE.

My focused research is currently on what it will take to build a collective movement that exchanges money via principles and practices of sacred reciprocity.

You can delve into previous episodes like: My Vision for the Universal Badass Income and The Spiderwoman Technology.

As I said in that previous episode, “I don’t charge for my worth, I charge for the worth of a movement:” there will always be people who judge me because they think my prices are too high, and some people will think the same price is too low.

My overall goal in my company is to create an ecosystem of offerings that cover a wide financial range. For example:

• lower cost sized storytelling tinctures and medicine bundles
• higher-ticket, highly personalized support
• a boat load of goodies free for the public

I’ve priced my personalized spiritual and creative “Spa Treatment Days” as a higher-ticket item, to properly support the great amount of energy I offer to these sessions.

I know they may be out of price range for some people who may want them, and that’s what I want to comment on.

Over the years I’ve seen many healers, artists and cool people offer things that were out of my price range. But I always feel happy for folks when I see this. I don’t feel angry that I can’t afford their services. Rather, I appreciate they are charging an amount that makes sense to them.

(A caveat: for the most part I can usually tell when people are charging, selling or running their business out of integrity. It’s easy to spot as an energy healer. But, that’s not really about the amount they are charging. It’s about their deeper intentions and motivations. If they piss me off it’s because they’re ascribing to an earth-dishonouring paradigm and it’s the paradigm that pisses me off.)

At the same time, MANY PEOPLE still feel angry, upset and even enraged when they see a healer offering something that is out of their price range, or that they think “should be free and available and accessible to all.”

So here’s what I have to say about that today:

The truth is, I’m a carrier of lost medicine.

My practice of working with stories as altars…as portals and ceremonies for life, death and transmutation…is a lost medicine that has been all but witch hunted and genocided – and oh so secretly protected – in my lineages for eons.

My practise of working with the Quantum Birth Chart, and the Revolutionary Heart is lost medicine.

One of my most powerful medicines I carry that drips and pours and RADIATES out of everything I am is the GIANT QUANTUM PUBLIC LIBRARY.

As a medicine carrier I am a walking Temple of Parables, Rare Apothecary, and Gorgeous Community Garden that made a choice to stay alive when she didn’t have to.

So, you’re right: Libraries, Temples, Apothecaries and Gardens should be available and accessible to everyone.

However, this has meant that throughout my life, people have treated me as if I – HUMAN SHAUNGA – should be available and accessible to everyone whenever they want me.

When people see me charging prices they can’t afford – it invokes a rage inside of them, a rage that I understand.

They see a library and they feel a deep sense of injustice that they can’t access it.

Moreover – it awakens the Ancestors inside of you who are also carriers of lost medicine.

Whenever my body or words walk into a room – I make people re-member.

You awaken to everything that has been witch hunted and genocided out of your lineage.

Your rage is at everything that has been done to your earth-steward lineages – not at my prices.

Your rage is at everything that has been done to humanity, AND at the Ancestors within you who have done harm.

You know what, I would be more than happy to offer my libraries and gardens and temples for free.

In our Ancient and Celestial memories of when we lived and died in thriving villages, I would do just that.

But the village, as a whole, would take care of me while I did so. And I don’t mean they would help me to just scrape by.

I mean they would rally around me the way a queer witch was a bonafide over-protective helicopter genderqueer mom to her 2 black cats for 14.5 years until they passed (and still am now TBH.)

I mean, my village would ensure that I am abundantly, lusciously thriving while I do what I’m here to do.

In the meantime, we have to come up with efficient solutions, as well as revolutionary solutions.

All this to say: our current public, cultural MILEIU is still not a safe and respectful place when it comes to honouring the reciprocity that healers and artists need – not just to survive, thrive or live well, which is our birth right – but to continue offering our leadership, council and support to the global collective as a whole.

The world needs Planetary Artists and Lost Medicine Carriers now more than ever.

There is too much chatter out there along the lines of “this is not the time for art” which easily turns into: “can you just keep giving your art to us for free because we actually do need it, we just don’t want to pay for it and we don’t care how that impacts you.”

…none of us should be participating in that. This is decidedly NOT THE TIME to be shooting our most dedicated stewards in the foot.

I hope that there are now enough of us willing to rally around our healers and artists and pouring everything we have into helping our most revolutionary movements thrive.
